Our Team

Rick Wies is Director of Design and a founding partner of Gregg Wies & Gardner Architects, a private practice founded in 1986 in New Haven, CT. Rick’s design projects range from residential, academic, religious, cultural, and athletic facilities to major public institutions and incorporate new construction, adaptive reuse and historic preservation. A sample of his institutional and commercial work projects include Yale’s British Art Museum, Long Wharf Theatre and the Connecticut Tennis Center. Recognized for his expertise and appreciation for historic preservation he has led the firm’s work on a diverse collection of iconic structures for municipalities, universities, religious congregations and private owners, highlights of which include New Haven’s Canal Dock Boathouse, renovations to Yale’s Harkness Tower, Yale Beinecke Rare Book Library, the Center Church on the Green, and several lighthouses. His projects have received numerous awards for historic preservation and new construction, highlights of which include New Haven’s Canal Dock Boathouse, a private New Haven residence, and Center Church on the Green Parish House in New Haven.

Shiwani Pol received a Masters in Architecture & Urban Design from Columbia University in New York in 2016, a Masters of Planning (Urban & Regional Design) from the Center for Environmental Planning & Technology in Ahmedabad in 2013 as well as a Bachelors of Architecture from RGPV University in Bhopal in 2010. Shiwani and joined Gregg Wies & Gardner Architects in 2018 and has over five years of professional design experience in architecture and urban design in hospitality, municipal, civic and housing sectors.

Max Bunton received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Roger Williams University in 2023. Max joined Gregg Wies and Gardner Architects as an intern in the spring of 2023 and is now a full-time project manager and architectural designer working on residential and commercial projects. Max plans to attend graduate school in the spring of 2027 to pursue a Masters in Architecture.

Sam Gardner has over 30 years of experience in transportation and infrastructure upgrades; downtown revitalization and TOD planning; historic rehabilitation and adaptive re-use projects. For the past 20 years, Sam has played a key role in many of the state’s rail, transit and airport facility design and renovation initiatives. Before joining GWG, he ran TAMS Consultants, Inc’s Stamford office for over five years renovating and expanding ConnDOT’s New Haven rail line stations. Registered in Connecticut since 1985, Sam received the “Emerging Architect Design Award” from AIA/CT for a broad body of work preserving and revitalizing the downtown districts of New Haven, South Norwalk, and Stamford, Connecticut.

Pablo Undurraga

Beliz Bilguvar joined Gregg Wies & Gardner Architects in 2006. She received a Bachelor in Architecture from Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in Istanbul, Turkey. She has over twenty years of professional experience in architecture and has worked on a variety of projects; designing, detailing, and managing residential, commercial, transportation and institutional buildings.

Kyra Byrne received a Bachelors of Science in Architecture from Roger Williams University in 2021 and a Masters in Architecture from the University of Washington in 2023. She joined the GWG team in 2021 and has since worked on projects involving historic preservation, single family housing, and larger commercial and residential projects.
