John Read Middle School project included major expansion and renovation to accommodate the addition of the fifth grade and to create a new media library. The two major additions included a 16,000 SF classroom addition and a 9,000 SF media library addition. The classroom addition included seven classrooms, staff rooms, and support spaces. The media / library addition included stacks, reading room, computer research areas, as well as new community meeting room. Renovations included: small auditorium, music, OT and special education rooms and cafeteria upgrades.

Contemporary additions to the existing late 1960’s structure created a new front entrance, interior courtyard and new parking lot and bus drop-off layout. The existing heating system was converted to fossil fuel with a new tank and spill retention system and back-up generator.

Services included preliminary design and costing to gain public approval; full architectural, civil, structural and MEP services for CT DOE submission and funding.
