Historic Introduction

While historic restoration requires a broad knowledge of architectural history, construction types, materials, construction details and building efficiency as well as durability, that knowledge alone does not ensure success when undertaking these projects; equally important is aesthetic design sensitivity and the ability to creatively accommodate evolving needs of the built environment.

GWG has demonstrated the requisite skills to bear on projects as diverse as 18th century colonial wood structures, early cast-in place concrete structures and 20th century modern masterpieces.

The rich architectural heritage of New England has provided Gregg Wies & Gardner many opportunities to find new life for older buildings. Many of the firm’s historic projects have included significant public and institutional buildings and it is with great pride that these projects have been undertaken.

Historic buildings are a valuable and vital resource to our communities and as a firm, GWG is committed to architectural preservation whether it be through sensitive adaptive re-use or pure restoration.
