Historic Adee Boathouse & Fitch Foundry
New Haven, Connecticut
The construction of the new “Q” Bridge across the New Haven harbor will require the removal of the historic Adee Boathouse (former Yale Boathouse) and the Fitch Foundry Complex. One of the stipulations outlined in the MOA required that Connecticut Department of Transportation, in consultation with the City of New Haven & SHPO, investigate the feasibility and prudence of moving these historic structures from their current locations to a site across the harbor along Long Wharf. Project tasks included the complete historic survey of both structures to HABS level; identification of significant historic elements and conditions report; move study via barge and over land; salvage study and conservation report.
Services include historic architecture and move consulting, preservation & salvage methodologies.
Ongoing services include salvage studies in anticipation of saving significant architectural elements to be conserved and utilized in a new Boathouse at Canal Dock Park.
